    Talent Acquisition and Development Specialist

    Job Summary

    The Talent Acquisition & Development Specialist will manage talent acquisition, onboarding, development, and retention to maintain a strong talent pipeline supporting Sunbeth’s logistics operations. A key responsibility is to establish and manage the Sunbeth Driver Academy to develop and certify professional drivers, improve safety and operational efficiency, reduce driver attrition, and build a sustainable driver talent pipeline.

    Job Details

    Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

    • Develop and implement talent acquisition strategies aligned with organizational growth objectives.
    • Partner with business leaders to forecast manpower requirements across logistics, shipping, transport, warehousing, freight operations, and support functions.
    • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes including sourcing, screening, assessments, interviews, offer management, and onboarding.
    • Build and maintain talent pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill roles.
    • Establish strategic partnerships with universities, professional bodies, logistics institutes, truck driving schools, and recruitment agencies.

    Talent Management & Organizational Development

    • Support talent review and succession planning processes.
    • Maintain skills inventories and workforce capability assessments.
    • Identify high-potential talent and create development plans.
    • Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives.
    • Support change management and organizational transformation projects.

    Learning & Development

    • Design and execute the organization's annual Learning & Development strategy.
    • Conduct enterprise-wide training needs assessments.
    • Coordinate onboarding and induction programmes for new employees.
    • Support performance management, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
    • Establish learning pathways for operational and management employees.

    Driver Academy Management

    • Establish and manage the Sunbeth Driver Academy as the organization's primary driver training and certification platform.
    • Develop a long-term driver capability strategy aligned with business expansion plans.
    • Build a sustainable pipeline of qualified truck, tanker, reefer, and specialized vehicle drivers.
    • Partner with regulatory agencies, driving institutions, OEMs, and fleet management partners to enhance training standards.

    Driver Talent Pipeline Management

    • Lead end-to-end recruitment of truck drivers, including sourcing, screening, licence and credential verification, and road/driving assessments.
    • Coordinate pre-employment checks, including medical fitness, defensive driving evaluation and background/reference verification.
    • Design and administer a structured onboarding and induction program for new drivers joining SSL's fleet.
    • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified driver candidates in partnership with driving schools, transport unions and local communities around Shagamu and other depot locations.

    Driver Training & Academy Programs

    • Design, implement and administer the curriculum of the Sunbeth Driver's Academy, covering defensive driving, road safety, vehicle handling, fuel-efficient driving, cargo securing and customer service.
    • Coordinate training logistics, scheduling and communication across depots, routes and SSL's Shagamu and Apapa locations.
    • Track and evaluate training effectiveness through post-training assessments, road tests and driver feedback.
    • Maintain a centralized training calendar and Learning Management System (LMS)/training records for all drivers.
    • Manage Training Needs Identification (TNI) for the driver workforce and ensure timely follow-up with Fleet Operations and QHSE.
    • Liaise with external training vendors, driving schools, FRSC-accredited instructors and regulatory bodies; review proposals and ensure content quality and compliance.

    Performance Management & Compliance

    • Support the planning and execution of the driver performance cycle, including goal setting, check-ins and periodic appraisals.
    • Cascade fleet and safety KPIs (on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, safety incidents, compliance infractions) from corporate scorecards to individual driver goals.
    • Monitor completeness of driver performance reviews and licence/certification renewals, escalating delays to Fleet Operations.
    • Compile, analyze and present driver performance data for management reporting and leadership review.
    • Support the design of templates, tools and communication guides for driver performance management and recognition.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Transport & Logistics Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Professional HR/L&D certification is an advantage.
    • Knowledge of Nigerian road transport and defensive driving standards.
    • Strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
    • 5–8 years relevant experience in HR, Learning & Development, driver training or workforce development.
